About us

Biosensing Team Twente is a multidisciplinary group of students and researchers from the University of Twente, driven by a passion for medical innovation. With expertise in chemistry, biomedical engineering, electronics, and business, we collaborate to develop cutting-edge biosensors. Each year, we design and present a novel biosensor at the SensUs competition, pushing the boundaries of research to create real-world impact. Our dedication was recognized with third place for Potential Translation at SensUs 2024, highlighting our commitment to advancing healthcare technology.

This year, we are developing a wearable biosensor designed to measure creatinine levels in interstitial fluid, offering a non-invasive approach to kidney health monitoring. Our goal is to provide a more accessible and continuous way to track renal function, which could benefit both patients and healthcare professionals.

Biosensing Team Twente at Open Days 20-22th March

On March 20th and 22nd, 2025, Biosensing Team Twente participated in the University of Twente’s Open Days, engaging with prospective students, faculty, and visitors to showcase our latest advancements in biosensing technologies.

During these events, we presented our ongoing project: the development of a continuous creatinine sensor for acute kidney injury (AKI) detection. This innovative sensor aims to provide real-time monitoring of creatinine levels, facilitating early detection and management of AKI, a condition critical to patient health.

Our interactive demonstrations allowed attendees to gain insights into the sensor’s design, functionality, and potential impact in clinical settings. We engaged in meaningful discussions about the integration of biosensing technologies in healthcare, emphasizing the interdisciplinary collaboration required in fields such as biomedical engineering, chemistry, and data science.

The Open Days provided an excellent platform to inspire future students about the possibilities within biosensing and to highlight the University of Twente’s commitment to cutting-edge research and innovation. We are excited to continue our work and contribute to advancements in personalized healthcare monitoring.

The O&O Plein Stand on March 10th 2025

On March 10, 2025, Biosensing Team Twente took part in the O&O Plein Stand at the University of Twente, where we showcased our work alongside other student teams. At SensUs 2024 in Eindhoven, Biosensing Team Twente won third place for Potential Translation!

“This is a remarkable achievement for us, as we became an official University of Twente student team this year”, says team captain Caterina Cattabriga. Competing against 17 international teams, this highlights the potential of their biosensor in future healthcare.

The team developed an aptamer-based biosensor to enable early hospital discharge through continuous, low-discomfort health monitoring, offering a safer and more comfortable patient experience.
